Cheesesteak Review #14: Charlie’s Pizzeria of Norristown
3.0 out of 5 stars
It’s been well over a month since my last review so I figured it was time to start back up. This time I visited Charlie’s Pizzeria in Norristown. Like all of my other reviews I had a cheesesteak with provolone and fried onions.
Bread-Bread itself was very gummy and tough to chew. It had a good taste but the roll itself was probably too big for this sandwich.
Cheese-There wasn’t really that much included. What was there was melted throughout the whole sandwich. The cheese had a pretty bland taste as well.
Meat-It was pretty good. It was cut up in to pretty small pieces. However some of it was cooked way too much. You can tell from the picture below that there was quite a bit of burnt meat throughout. It was good quality meat and there was not fat or gristle. Also there was not much grease from the meat itself so that is a good sign that it was quality meat.
Amount-As you can see below the sandwich was huge. It was loaded with meat. It was only about 10 inches but I was very full from it. The meat with the onions and the thick roll really filled me up. I definitely did not leave hungry.
Fried Onions-Tons mixed throughout the sandwich. They could have been cooked just a little more as some of them were almost raw, but the ones that were fried properly were pretty tasty.
Charlie’s Pizzeria offers a pretty standard cheesesteak. There really wasn’t anything special about it. Cheesesteaks like the one they offer are a dime a dozen. If it didn’t contain a massive amount of meat I probably would have rated it 2.5 out of 5 but the amount of meat played a pretty big role in the overall ranking. Charlie’s itself is know for its pizza. I’ve never had it before but I know people around the area live or die by it. So if you are in the Norristown/East Norriton area I would stop by and give the pizza a shot before the cheesesteak. One of the better selling points of Charlie’s Pizzeria is the amount of cold beer they have that you can get for Take Out. They have 40’s, tons of 6 packs and even some single cans if you aren’t a big drinker.
