Cheesesteak Review #54: Fat Daddy’s Deli of Plymouth Meeting

The Plymouth Meeting area doesn’t have much of a selection to choose from when it comes to cheesesteaks.  For the longest time when I was living in Conshohocken I drove by a deli located on Plymouth Road right off of Germantown Pike not too far away from the Plymouth Meeting Mall.  The deli I am referring to is named Fat Daddy’s Deli.  The small amount of reviews I could find about the place all said good things about them.  So needless to say I was I was pretty excited to give Fat Daddy’s Deli a try.  As normal I ordered a cheesesteak with provolone and fried onions.

Bread-The bread was pretty standard.  From what I could tell it was a Conshy Bakery roll or some type of knock off of it.  The roll was fresh and not too chewy.  It did an excellent job absorbing the grease from the meat as well.  I don’t have any complaints about the roll.

Cheese-The cheese was also pretty average.  They used a good amount of provolone and it had a good flavorful taste to it.  The cheese wasn’t mixed throughout the entire cheesesteak which is one minor complaint I have about this cheesesteak.

Meat-The meat was amazing.  It had a great seasoned taste to it.  It was also diced up in to small pieces which is a major plus.  It was cooked to perfection as it more or less melted, and fell apart in my mouth as I was eating it.  There wan’t and fat or gristle nor where there any burnt or under cooked pieces.  They did an excellent job preparing the meat.  The only gripe I had was that there was a little too much grease produced from the meat.  The roll did a decent job absorbing it all, but there was just too much to my disliking.  The quality of the meat seemed pretty decent so I don’t know where it all came from.

Amount-This cheesesteak was huge.  The 10 inch roll was stuffed with a ton of meat and a proportionate amount of cheese and fried onions.  I was actually pretty full at the completion of this cheesesteak.  Just a cheesesteak filling me up doesn’t happen to often, so for it to occur the cheesesteak has be monstrous.

Fried Onions-The fried onions were a little above average.  They were fried for the perfect amount of time to a nice crispy texture.  There was a decent amount of them included and they were mixed throughout the entire cheesesteak.  The only complaint was that there were some larger pieces of onions included.  Usually most places have them cut up in smaller pieces.

Fat Daddy’s Deli’s cheesesteak was a pleasant surprise.  Their cheesesteak was amazing and I can’t wait to try it again.  I recommend stopping by this place if you are around Plymouth Meeting or shopping at the Plymouth Meeting Mall.  I guarantee you that you will not be disappointed.  They don’t have any seating so you will either need to eat in your car or find a park or a bench some place to eat whatever you decided to order from there.  The rest of their menu is pretty standard as far as sandwich shops go.  So for now the award for the best tasting cheesesteak around the Plymouth Meeting area goes to Fat Daddy’s Deli.
